Black Paper Sketch

Negative Space

Unlike in traditional sketches, using this sketching technique allows you to focus on the shape as a whole instead of individual details. The purpose of a drawing like this is to notice proportions of the object. Although it includes minimal detail, the subject of the sketch is still very recognizable in silhouette.

Outdoor Macro Sketch

This is a compilation of four separate sketches which are graphically related. Besides the obvious common theme of nature, they also share colors and a line direction which tends toward the vertical. I used different media in each quadrant: graphite and chalks, ball point ink, drafting liner, felt tip, and even flourescent highlighter.
