Kitchen Design

These process boards are for a kitchen designed for a client who wanted an open kitchen that brought the outdoors in, with a country flair. The inspiration she provided me with is a Thomas Kinkade painting, so the overall color scheme of the space is rich and inviting. I broke up the expansive cabinets with some smooth curves to soften the work space. Kitchens have a wider range of fixtures and finishes than other rooms in the home, so I got to have fun coordinating. This design was the first of mine in which I had to consider the NKBA guidelines for standard measurements for kitchens and baths. All previous projects have dealt with the creative side of design; this was the first to incorporate technical aspects as well. I learned about standards concerning measurements such as walkway width, counter height, and total counter frontage. I also learned how ceiling height can affect the feeling of a space. I decided to raise the ceiling over the living room portion to make the spaces feel different without adding a physical barrier.
