Bath and Laundry Room

The process of bath design is different from that of other rooms I have done in the past, simply because it requires more research and careful planning. There are lots of fixtures in a relatively small space, and each one needs to be properly accounted for. It is not like placing furniture, because each piece requires plumbing. This was the first project where brand names were particularly important, since there is so much variation in product dimensions between companies. Meeting ADA standards was a challenge, but a welcome one, since it actually guided my space planning process. Measurements became more important, and I enjoyed this new, more detailed way of thinking.

I'm very happy with the way this space turned out. It would have been very easy for me to design a nature-themed room, since our inspiration object was something found outdoors. I decided to go in a new direction and try for a streamlined, modern bath in order to show some variety in my work. I was nervous about using a monochromatic color palette, especially grays, but the varition in finishes and textures, along with the red accents, add interest. The fixtures in this bath are meant to be something other than the norm - something more exciting than the standard.
